  • Logan O'Callahan,

25 on the test. Started uni at 16. Mechanical engineering.

    I can relate.

For a long time I thought everyone liked to learn how things work after a few drinks. Now I'm Silent Bob - without the dope.

  • Islander,

    ScottY - love it!

"32 - excuse me, I'm a nice asexual who doesnt really like strangers,
but I can talk about insects, fish, archaeology, whisky and food until your face turns blue. I can even converse about same, and lit bits, if you require?"

    OK, big nametags but-

  • 3410,

Thus the need for name badges/labels at all Great Blends, with an addendum next time along the lines of Hi, I am able to converse on the following topics.....?

A truly great idea, Geoff; guaranteed to spark connections that otherwise likely would never have happened between people with embarrassingly obscure interests.

PS. I just got a phone, so you're on your own now, bud. ;)

Did any one else note the irony that the actor (Erik Thomson) playing Derek Turner in last night's The Million Dollar Con Man also played Chch property developer David Henderson in We're here to help .

I thought I was watching We're here to help for about six minutes.

I just practised and now everyone thinks I like people. I don't really, except the ones I do.

I like people... except the ones who like Gorillaz. So, only about 10 percent of them then, really.

But Billy Idol's Dancing With Myself, that IS about wanking, right?

    Seriously, She bop really is.

    AQ rating: 40

Lol @ Dave Patrick doin' the Nozin' Around dance.

  • Sacha,

    You smooth operator

Regretting missing party even more now. Timing.

Does that mean Sacha will make it too?

Yes, and woohoo (unless someone pays for me to be at the AutismNZ conference in Welli with Hilary and friends, which seems pretty unlikely).

They're always generalisations, but the MyersBriggs seems quite on the mark - ENTJ, borderline ENFJ.

Being on a good dancefloor is just a liberating thing

Pure joy (when fit). Oh, and 26. Unsurprised but would welcome questions about stuff like dancing, not just numbers. Bloody stereotypes.

  • Ross Mason,

The results are in fellow PSers: (I have to say that was a quick 150 posts. Thank you DH)

23 respondents to the AQ test. I am assuming the "high 30s / low 40's is a 40, and Sasha's 26 is not her age.

Average AQ for this set is 24.9.
    Minimum was 9
    Maximum was 40.
    8 scored 32 or higher......Ouch

No doubt you all read the blurb that said the control group had an average of 16.4. And 80% of those with Autism or a related disorder scored 32 or higher.

So we are above average. Ouch again. (Admission - moi 22, although I recall slightly higher a few years ago...mellowing).

That's all folks....now back to your holes.....no talking to yourselves now...
    .
    .
    .
I hate myself........remember to say "Hi" to cool chick.....hold head up....lift eyes, up, up....higher you letch!

  • webweaver,

Oh! Wait! Can I play too?

    AQ score 31

    Myers-Briggs borderline INFJ/ISFJ (strongly I and J).

Definitely an energy-type introvert - social things exhaust me and I always reach a point where I just.have.to.leave.now - although I generally enjoy myself up that point as long as I know some people.

If I don't know anyone it's completely terrifying and I'm probably not even there, having made some lame excuse not to go at all unless we're all going to be wearing costumes (I can totally relate to the comment upthread about being more comfortable playing a role) or I know we'll all be wearing nametags with info attached (great idea, ScottY).

Generally find myself being a leader in small groups (like in a seminar/workshop situation, even if I don't know anyone) and often get asked to do the group preso at the end, which I don't mind - but the social drinkies bit afterwards is not at all fun for me.

Confess to definitely having obsessions about things (often to the exclusion of pretty much everything else), cannot for the life of me remember names because I can't recognise or remember faces out of context - or even in context unless I've met them a few times (see: prosopagnosia).

Also confess to sharing Russell's terror at the idea of "doing a turn" at a party, and yet I'm more than happy to play charades at the same party. Can give a speech or even do live telly/radio if I know my subject well, but put me in a room and tell me to be funny in front of even a bunch of people I know and love dearly and I turn to custard.

And of course I love to dance.

    Heh. TMI?

  • 81stcolumn,

43 – But then you are talking to the guy who has never been to a great blend and has posted under a pseudonym for the last three years. I might add, most of my posts are either hit or miss.

I guess this is a good time to make my public apology to Simon Pound – Some two or more years ago my charming, beautiful wife and I did attend an early edition of media7. Simon spotted my quite heavily pregnant wife and offered to get her a drink. I of course ordered one too. It took me some months to decode the look of bemusement on Simon’s face at the time. After some 30 years I still get defeated by the simplest of social acts. Sorry Simon, I now understand what was going on. How rude of me.

I do work in a University.

My colleagues have learned to value my strengths and shelter me from my weaknesses. I owe them a great deal. At a recent departmental function I stayed in the room for a whole hour. My colleagues were impressed, even a little incredulous. “how did you do it ?” “someone asked me a question that I could lecture to….”

When my wife cannot sleep she will ask me a question like “how does a microprocessor work ?”. I have a colleague at work who regards asking me tech questions as a legitimate sport. I still fix his PC though.

You know it’s bad however when you can’t watch certain types of TV; House (yes), Ugly Betty (no – I have to hide or at least cover my ears and not look when it gets really embarrassing).

I stopped doing IT support some 10 years ago, but I can still remember staff logins and passwords. Some of them do still work.

On the matter of names, my intern made me laugh today. While trying to remember a good looking young man’s name she asked for his phone number and then asked him to spell his name…T…O…M was the reply.

Facebook – A Skinner box for the emotionally weak <wink>
    And as for Macs…

Dancing ? sheeeeit the rhythm, the harmonics, me dancing in a room full of really tough black fellas, they must have loved the floorshow.

Training is working behind a bar.

They could even smoke in an English accent.

    Bit of a wheeze I’d say…….

    Simon Grigg…Music…I’m listening……..

    I Feeeeeeel Youuuuuuuu

Also, the date is now Friday, Sept 10. We had to move it back a week to avoid a very eventful week the one before. We'll be seeing you, then?

I'll join the chorus and say 'She Bop' really *is* about wanking. 'They say I'd better stop or I'll go blind'. When was the last time someone told you that about dancing?

(I wonder if my good memory for phone numbers and small details gave me that 15...)

  • Ben Austin,

I seem to have got a 10, but I don't quite recognise that result. So I'll mark it as a blip. Hurrah for testing!

I think the last time I did the Myers-Brigg test was about the same time Destiny's Church was marshalling for the "Enough is Enough" march to Parliament and I was sitting in a testing room in a tower block watching it all. Most distracting as you can imagine

I think the thing I appreciate most about my husband is that I can come home and say "There were people. Now please fuck off and leave me alone for a while" and he doesn't take it personally. It can be very hard when people assume that your grumpiness is about them personally rather than having reached your saturation point of human contact.

I'm pretty sure this isn't about self-gratification, but it may contain references of a sexual nature.

Whereas if you stumble upon the Justin Beiber song of the same title? Well, what else would it be about?
