I was encouraged, by members of the Public Address Community*, to make up stories about Emma and a Certain Recent Night.
I must refute this most strongly. At no point did we encourage you to make things up. We encouraged you, in the spirit of therapeutic healing, to use the techniques of rational analysis and recovered memory to "piece together the gaps" from the evening in question. So, for example, you might be walking down the street and see two policewomen, a duck, and the City to Sea bridge and suddenly "recollect" something that Emma had done in the blur between 5 and 7am.
Actually, at the T4WAs last night, I was quite surprised by how many people I'd met at the book launch - some of whom I'd had extensive conversations with - completely failed to remember me. Then again, when you turn up at 10pm to an event where people have been drinking since 5, I suppose it's hardly unexpected.

I got the top comment, and even better it just kept on giving!! Got to love that. Do I get a prize for that? Surely I do?!
Always interesting and enjoyable to interact with people of mostly different viewpoints.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all
Cheers for being such a Good Sport about it, James.
two policewomen, a duck, and the City to Sea bridge...
Duuuude, shut uuuup...

I would just like to say that "salacious" is a sadly under-used word and I'm glad to see it get an airing in an appropriate context. Splendid.
-
I LOVE the word salacious, and use it all the time. :)
Duuuude, shut uuuup...
Jack, you have no idea how close to the truth you just got.
Add in some whipped cream and a spanner, and you're almost there.

And a request for more gruel

81st turns head to one side, frowns and thinks.
"Olives hmmm they'd have to be pitted in order to fire Paul Holmes across the room."
Apologies - it has already been a very strange day.

Oi, you, shut it. We prefer to refer to the gentleman in question as "dear friend who works for the ministry of [redacted]."
-
I thought it were sufficiently subtle..
-
Bart's said exactly what I'd've liked to. PAS keeps me feeling somewhat connected to NZ,
Same, and despite stirring a bit, I love you all; inversely proportionally to the same time last year. Respect.
-
Ah, Deborah's comment reminded me, and then I promptly forgot again, that my actual non-humourous favourite PAS comment of the year is one of hers. I think there's a lot of System at its very best in there - a calm but absolute, inarguable take-down, and an expression of anger and frustration that wasn't angry.
-
That was a great comment, although you just reminded me of how utterly draining that discussion was. I'm getting a stress headache just thinking about it.
-
Do I get a prize for that? Surely I do?!
You got enlightened as to what the perverts think, surely that counts?
-
Oi, you, shut it. We prefer to refer to the gentleman in question as "dear friend who works for the ministry of [redacted]."
And I feel bound to say, I would not have picked the ministry in question, had I not been told. He's certainly a bundle o' fun, though.

I was going to say, "Gosh, really?", but I was worried I might critically deplete the world's sarcasm supply.

3410,
I was worried I might critically deplete the world's sarcasm supply.
Really? The way I see it, we're a long way from Peak Sarcasm.
-
Yes, there's unknown quantities of Dark Sarcasm yet to be mined. But thread cooling is another matter, a few degrees could be catastrophic.

I'm gonna need a symbol.

As an infrequent poster but avid reader, I too would like to offer my thanks to all* the people who make up this wonderful online community. I haven't managed to get to any of the functions yet, but I look forward to meeting some of you in 2010.
An especial thanks to Emma who has provided many of the most interesting threads and has bolstered my high regard of women with brains and attitude (as well as the other necessary attributes...). I shall raise a glass and possibly a small "herbal cigarette" to people I have never met but who feel, to me, like friends.
We have a good deal of sympatico and a healthy amount of bickering and antagonism (not to mention Craig's relentless sex-oriented intense expressions of disgust/disbelief) that allows a degree of inclusiveness that is seldom found IRL and even less often online.
Cheers one and all, for we live and can smile!
Arohanui PAS.
* Not all, there's a few that post here that get right up my nose, but the rest are so good I can let it pass

I'll apologise if I am one. Merry cherry for you and small is good We like small, and herbs.:)

No Sofie, you're on the right side of my personal ledger. (And I hope to meet you in person in the coming year.)
Tis not the season to name names/pseudonyms. Goodwill to most.
-
there's a few that post here that get right up my nose,
Sorry dude. If it's any consolation, I'm retiring from the site in a couple of minutes. Merry Christmas.
-
Hey,we live and hopefully learn. Sometimes I think it is the tripping up that helps us most. Not the Tripping as in seeing cows and sheep like my first night in Sydney but the likes of the brain haemorrhages etc.I like to think consideration of those around you demands tolerance.( about 3 feet ) Later dude, for it will happen, raising a wine glass to you Stewart.

I truly think that the ones who I find annoying will not be minded to respond. Of all the legion who comment here it is only a few (less than a handful, I think) whose posts I will skip. But I am equally sure that there are some who see my name at the side of my posts and who mentally shrug and move on to the next. It really doesn't matter. Pick'n'mix is the way to enjoy the sweet things in life.
-
Aye. Don't sweat the small shit. :))
